The entities at the end are the final surviving models of the mecha built by human beings. They have technology so advanced it is indistinguishable from magic and are a synthesis of living and synthetic humans.
they appear to be organic – their entire bodies almost look like a brain encapsulated in jelly. you can even see electric signals, like in the human brain, traveling through their bodies. they also refer to david as a “machine,” as if they are possibly organic? it would make sense for aliens to be on Earth in the future. perhaps, aliens discovered the Earth after humanity died out (i get this from the curiosity they have about humans and the way they seem to be studying earth)
