A trusted team of Regent University engineers who were familiar with OpenDNSs home offerings recommended that Director of Network Engineering, Jonathan Harrell, and his team begin testing OpenDNS Enterprise. Right away it was clear that the DNS-based security solution was ideal for scaling to serve the large campus without creating network bottlenecks, and it would be able to uniquely prevent the proliferation of malware at the university.

With lightweight OpenDNS Enterprise we can now identify and block malware before users even know how to find it, explained Harrell. More importantly, we can easily look at a high-level flyover of all of our networks and identify trends before they become problems. That means were preventing malware instead of cleaning it up.

OpenDNS Enterprise offers a two-pronged approach to malware protection. First, the solution prohibits access to sites known to host malware so that the universitys students and faculty cant download it. Second, OpenDNS Enterprise eliminates communication between devices that are already infected and the networks they access, meaning that malware and botnets are both disabled from communicating with their online hosts and proliferating across the network.

Additionally, OpenDNS Enterprise offers network managers the ability to easily gain insight on what is happening across their networks without having to sort through heavy or complicated reports. The centralized OpenDNS Enterprise Web-based Dashboard allows us to regain complete control over our network, Harrell continued. Whether Im making network changes, examining high-level network reports, or drilling down to identify the source of potential threats, I can do it all on the go with easy-to-understand reports.

Speaker Bios: Tobin Dommer, Special Counsel, Sheppard Mullin Richter & Hampton LLP. Mr. Dommer is a special counsel in the Corporate practice group in Sheppard Mullin's Palo Alto office. He represents businesses, entrepreneurs and investors in a wide range of corporate and intellectual property matters, including venture capital investments, mergers and acquisitions, corporate governance, entity formation, equity compensation plans, and licensing of intellectual property. His practice emphasizes high technology and emerging growth companies, including software, digital media and hardware companies. Mr. Dommer received his J.D. from Santa Clara University School of Law and his A.B. from University of California, Berkeley. Ryan Floyd, Managing Director, Storm Ventures. Ryan is a founding member of Storm Ventures. At Storm Ventures, Ryan focuses on enterprise IT, internet and web infrastructure opportunities. He has primarily invested in software as a service (Crowd Factory, Netforensics), mobile (Appcelerator) and cloud/internet related investments (3Crowd, Hubpages, Kidaro/acquired by Microsoft, and Spalshtop). Prior to joining E-TEK, Ryan was with Summit Partners, a private equity firm, where he focused primarily on the communications industry, including Summit's investment in E-TEK Dynamics in July 1997. Ryan received his B.S. and M.S. in Earth Systems from Stanford University. Ankur Jain, Vice President, Blumberg Capital. Ankur has over 12 years of experience as an investor, strategy consultant and operational executive. Prior to joining Blumberg Capital, Ankur did strategy consulting for Accenture specializing in IT strategy. Ankur has also worked at many small and large technology companies. Ankur worked at Softaware Networks when it was acquired by Digital Island in 2000 and at Andiamo Systems when it was acquired by Cisco in 2004. Ankur earned a B.S. in Computer Science and Engineering from IIT Delhi, an M.S. in Computer Science from UCLA, and an MBA in Management from the Wharton School, where he graduated as a Palmer Scholar. Ankur is also a co-inventor for five technology patents. Ankur serves as a member or observer on the Board of Directors of Appboy, Mobsmith, Yap.tv, Legolas Media, MomTrusted, DealSquare and Sonar.
