A revealing examine contemporary youth culture, writer-director Mario Van Peebles “We this Party” shows teenagers while they are, not as adults want them to be. Set amidst the most up-to-date trends in music, dance and fashion, “We the Party” is often a colorful, cutting-edge comedy set within an ethnically diverse Los Angeles secondary school during Americas first black president. The film focuses on five friends as they deal with romance, money, prom, college, sex, bullies, facebook, fitting in, standing out, and finding themselves. Evoking such classic teen comedies because Breakfast Club and House Party but with the attitude and style all its own, “We the Party” reflects the hopes, confusion, challenges and dreams of todays teenagers since they plunge headlong into a great uncertain future.
We the Party is a coming-of-age story of a generation that could think in tweets, or tweet instead connected with think, but still has to cope with very material and all-encompassing stresses. The fact that the film opens having an unsmiling African American young person wearing a dark hoodie jogging to school is nothing next to chilling in these periods of lethal fashion alternatives for kids of color. Director Mario Van Peebles, who also stars from the film alongside several connected with his sons, has crafted a remarkably well-edited and authentic little bit of filmmaking thats both exhilaratingly exciting (think a fewer self-indulgent, and definitely less queer Kaboom) in addition to socially conscious-to a limit.

We the Party employs the daily lives of a small grouping of mostly privileged and black Los Angeles-area students as they deal using such troubles as having to lose their virginity just before prom or convincing their parents to get them a car. Not everyones problems usually are so petty. One of the schools outcasts, the hoodie-wearing rapper H. C., for Conscious Criminal (played out by rapper YG, n? Kennan Jackson), has been held back his grade several situations, lives in poverty, and is constantly vulnerable by his thuggish old brother (played by the jarringly casted Snoop Dogg).
Van Peebles, who plays the type teacher, does his best to be able to pepper the film in reference to his politically conscious mottos, some of which could feel heavy-handed (bare minimum effort now means minimum-wage in the future and insecure people buy a lot of stuff they dont have to have). But the fact that this We the Party will be, from the beginning, so clear about the pro-education message gives it is many spectacular party scenes and rap battles a feeling of gravitas. Its like booty-shaking for just a noble cause, or something like which.
Its also rather impressive which the 52-year-old Van Peebles may be able to represent modern day teenage culture so entreatingly well besides in his dialogue, but in the very visual kind of the film, which turns each scene right bombardment of broken-up products with unexpected speed improvements and cuts.
